Welcome to the Sun and Cricket Bed and Breakfast, an eco-friendly retreat located on a hidden 35-acre estate within 30 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh. The solitude of this very special place extends to your accommodations: a two-bedroom, two-bath log cabin or a spacious carriage house that now features a full kitchen for guests requiring extended stays. We specialize in romantic getaways for people who enjoy nature and want luxurious comfort in their own exclusive retreat. However, we also are ideal for travelers who want something a little different from the ordinary or for those who require a place to stay for a week or even a month.
A 52-foot swimming pool presents a refreshing oasis in summer; while a 220-year-old bank barn provides stalls for up to four horses and is surrounded by acres of fields and forests filled with century-old cherry, oak and maple trees.
To complete your stay, we typically offer a three-course breakfast that mines the bounty of our own vegetable/herb gardens and orchards while tapping the resources of local smokehouses, wineries, mills, farms and farm markets. We’ve planted 40 berry bushes (raspberry, blackberry and blueberry) and more than 40 fruit trees—expanding our ability to offer you the bounty from our land. Log cabin guests dine at a harvest table in the cabin’s library, while carriage-house guests usually have a special room all to themselves in the main house.
And we’ve now gone solar! The barn roofs now boast 67 solar panels—enough to generate all our electricity.
We are excited to share all these changes with our repeat guests as well as show new guests the many features that make a stay here so memorable.
During the COVID-19 recovery period in Pennsylvania, the Sun and Cricket is open for business ONLY to fully vaccinated and boosted adults and fully vaccinated children, and we look forward to hosting you. The health safety of our guests is our primary concern now and always, and we update our procedures based on recommendations from the Pennsylvania Department of Health and Safety.
"My wife and I first stayed at the Sun & Cricket shortly after getting married in 2013. Since then we've made it a tradition to spend the weekend there for our anniversary. Each and every experience has been outstanding. Tara and John are fantastic hosts. We can't get enough of Tara's breakfasts (German puff pancakes are my personal favorite), and both Tara and John always provide warm and welcoming conversation. The swimming pool is beautiful, and we always make sure to take full advantage of it if the weather cooperates. When we're at the Sun & Cricket, it's hard to believe that we're only 20 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh. It really feels like a whole different world." Steve Lautman
