Welcome to the Sun and Cricket Bed and Breakfast, located on a hidden 35-acre estate within 30 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh. The solitude of this very special place extends to your accommodations: a two-bedroom, two-bath log cabin or a spacious carriage house. Both are separate, standalone structures and offer the ultimate in privacy.
We specialize in romantic getaways for people who enjoy nature and want luxurious comfort in their own exclusive retreat. However, we also are ideal for travelers who want something a little different from the ordinary.
A 52-foot swimming pool presents a refreshing oasis in summer; while a 220-year-old bank barn provides stalls for up to four horses and is surrounded by acres of fields and forests filled with century-old cherry, oak and maple trees.
To complete your stay, we typically offer a three-course breakfast that mines the bounty of our own vegetable/herb gardens and orchards while tapping the resources of local smokehouses, wineries, mills, farms and farm markets. Log cabin guests dine at a harvest table in the cabin’s library, while carriage-house guests usually have a special room all to themselves in the main house. As we emerge from the corona virus pandemic, we are resuming hot breakfasts to guests who are fully vaccinated. For unvaccinated guests, we provide a continental breakfast of homemade goodies placed in your suite the night before.
During the COVID-19 recovery period in Pennsylvania, the Sun and Cricket is open for business to fully vaccinated adults, and we look forward to hosting you. The health safety of our guests is our primary concern now and always, and we update our procedures based on recommendations from the Pennsylvania Department of Health and Safety.
"My wife and I first stayed at the Sun & Cricket shortly after getting married in 2013. Since then we've made it a tradition to spend the weekend there for our anniversary. Each and every experience has been outstanding. Tara and John are fantastic hosts. We can't get enough of Tara's breakfasts (German puff pancakes are my personal favorite), and both Tara and John always provide warm and welcoming conversation. The swimming pool is beautiful, and we always make sure to take full advantage of it if the weather cooperates. When we're at the Sun & Cricket, it's hard to believe that we're only 20 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh. It really feels like a whole different world." Steve Lautman
